Help for Haiti has been committed to providing supplemental income to educators, pastors, and community center leaders. We currently help 17 teachers, 3 leaders, and a local administrator for $400 per month. Otherwise, they are just not able to make ends meet.
Many teachers make about $1 per day, which is not enough to feed their own families. Our supplemental income allows them to focus on teaching, leading, and building communities while not worrying about how they are going to survive. In rural Haiti, a teacher’s salary can be less than $300 for the entire year!
Providing just a bit more income gives them a sense of dignity and invites others to consider teaching as a career. In effect, we are providing the infrastructure for building communities and providing for Haiti’s future.
