Building Communities

  • The Acul du Nord Church School had a dirt floor, no roof, and crumbling walls. Every day, 30 students were jammed into this remnant of a building for their education. On rainy days, they used tarps to stay dry. On Sundays, the same broken down shell of a building was used for church.

For a mere investment of $ 9,000 we were able to round up a team of 30 local tradesmen and renovate the building. They poured a concrete floor, repaired and reinforced the walls, and built a roof. The following year, we returned to build 10 school benches that provided seating for 60 children during the week and congregants on Sunday. The renovated building is 40 x 60 feet and has become the community center for residents of this rural area.
